Abstract :
In this work the texture evolution of a near β Ti–3Zr–2Sn–3Mo–25Nb (TLM) biomedical titanium alloy in cold compression has been investigated. The XRD examination shows that the resultant samples consist of β together with a small amount of the stress induced martensitic (α″) phase. The development of texture has been explained in terms of orientation distribution functions (ODFs) of α and γ fibres. Comparing with other β alloys such as Ti–15V–3Cr–3Sn–3Al and Ti–10V–4.5Fe–1.5Al, the texture in the TLM alloy changes continuously with the increase of compression reduction; specifically, the texture components of the starting material change once the compression reduction is up to 5%, and the prominent texture component of {111}〈110〉 recovers and the orientation density starts to increase when the reduction increases from 10% to 50%.
