Abstract :
A large cryocondensation pump for an intense atomic hydrogen beam was designed, fabricated, and tested; its compact design allowed a total copper cryopanel area of about 15 m2. The cryopanels operated at about 2.6 K. For an atomic hydrogen beam of up to 3.2 × 1018 atoms s−1, the measured pumping speed was about 1.2 × 107 l s−1, which is 4.2 × 1026 atoms Torr−1 s−1.
