Abstract
Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) is viewed by the US fusion community as a promising alternative and, thus, is a “proper and important component” in the restructured US fusion energy sciences program. The office of Fusion Energy Sciences in DOE continues to support Heavy Ion Fusion (HIF) research and development, but with delayed plans for any major construction, due to US government budget tightening.
