Abstract
The CLEO III group is constructing a new drift chamber to be installed as part of the staged luminosity upgrade program at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring and compatible with the interaction region optics. Although having less radial extent than the current CLEO II tracking system, CLEO III will have equivalent momentum resolution because of material reduction in the drift chamber inner skin and gas. The thin inner skin requires special attention to the endplate motion due to wire creep. During stringing, use of a robot will fully automate the wire handling on the upper end.
