Abstract
A neutron spectrometer incorporating two silicon surface barrier detectors and a 6LiF target has been designed, constructed and used to determine neutron energy distributions in three irradiation sites of the Strasbourg University Reactor (SUR). The spectrometer is compared with other spectrometer designs using the same detectors and target by means of the energy resolution observed for a thermalized neutron beam. The spectrometer considerations including the detection efficiency, the geometrical function and the spectrometer response function of coincident detection of the two emitted particles, i.e., tritium and α, are presented. Gold’s method of spectral unfolding was applied to reconstruct the energy distribution at two irradiation sites of SUR.
