Analysis of the ‘new electrical model’ of sonoluminescence

The ‘new electrical model’ which was proposed by Margulis in 1985 to explain sonoluminescence and sonochemistry was analysed. It is shown that the basic concept of electrification by shearing the electrical double layer characterising the interface between a liquid and a gais incorrectly applied in the case of the fragmentation of cavitation bubbles into smaller cavities.
