Abstract :
Thick liquid chambers for heavy-ion inertial fusion energy will use large numbers of stationary and oscillating molten salt jets to create pockets for target injection and ignition. The modularity provided by multiple jets allows the study and optimization of single jets prior to studies of the interactions of multiple jets. This paper reports the scaling requirements for achieving hydrodynamically similar jets using water with geometrically scaled nozzles, and experimental results for the formation of stationary and oscillating sheet jets.
