  • Abstract
At the ESRF microfocus beamline (ID13), an X-ray microbeam (typically 2, 5 or 10 μm in diameter) is available for simultaneous wide- and small-angle scattering experiments using a single detector. Thus, a single scanning experiment provides information on three different length scales: (1) crystallographic parameters on the atomic level and (2) mesoscopic particle or pore sizes are obtained with (3) microscopic spatial resolution. The present article describes the experimental set-up. Examples will be shown, with emphasis laid on the resolution of the ID13 small-angle camera (maximum accessible d-spacing: 1000 Å) and the possibilities of performing fast microdiffraction experiments with acquisition times as short as 0.1 s for two-dimensional diffraction patterns of weakly scattering samples.
