Organic scintillators containing 10B for neutron detectors

Organic scintillators containing 10B have been studied as scintillators with short decay time and high neutron detection efficiency. In the scintillators, B atoms work both as the neutron reactants and as the activators for the luminescence. ricated a polymer containing B and some sheet-like samples by using the polymer-blend method. The luminescence characteristics of these samples were evaluated for UV-lights, X-rays, α-rays and neutrons. One of the sample shows a luminescence decay time of 3.7 ns for neutron excitation with the detection efficiency of about 0.02.
