Abstract
Separation of measurement-introduced detector-response functions from the measured spectra has been achieved through various methods by a number of researchers in the literature. However, application of these methods to the low-energy range of high-purity germanium spectrometry yields unsatisfactory results. Therefore, an approach utilizing Monte Carlo simulated detector-response functions of the physical measurement system and the method of Gold deconvolution were used to arrive at a successful algorithm of deconvolving and thus purifying a collected low-energy spectrum. Utilizing the deconvolved data, spectra are reconstructed to within the detector system resolution limitations and are thus representative of the true energy spectrum prior to interaction with the spectrometer.
