  • Abstract
Within this study, five different types of material were used as luminescence dosimetry phosphors for recording environmental radiation doses. The material was TLD400 and TLD500 phosphors, quartz from two different geological origins (quartzite rock veins and quartz sand) and salt and the techniques were Thermo- and Optically Stimulated Luminescence. osphors were buried within homogenized and sieved natural soil for periods ranging from 1 to 19 weeks. The luminescence analysis examined for signal sensitivity, dose response and signal growth. sults report well-measured doses of only some weeks when using Optical Luminescence besides the well-studied TLD400/500 phosphors also for quartz and salt samples. With Thermoluminescence, only TLD400/500 could reliably monitor doses corresponding to some weeks. The study concludes that quartz and salt could be routinely used as dosimetry phosphors to correctly estimate doses resulted from only some months of average to low radiation environments.
