Abstract :
For high power beams special care must be taken to ensure that the beamstop surface power density is well distributed. An anti-ogive-shaped beamstop surface geometry is proposed. Furthermore a new design technique to produce an optimized surface power density distribution is detailed. Calculations are compared at low energy for 4 different beamstop surface geometries: A. Ogive, B. Cone, C. Anti-ogive and D. Optimized surface power density distribution. The length of the beamstop, the outside shield size and mass are greatly reduced by the new optimized distribution of beamstop. The effects of beam misalignment and beam divergence are also discussed.
