Abstract :
In this work we describe the process of alignment with the beam of the 05B1-1 bending magnet beamline at the Canadian Light Source. When we started testing the beamline with the beam in 2008, we discovered that the white X-ray beam was severely apertured in the vertical direction due to misalignment of the front end beamline components. As a temporary solution, the minimum beam propagating into the experimental hutch was partially corrected for by introducing a local electron orbit correction bump in the storage ring and by optimizing the vertical position of the fixed mask in primary optics hutch 1. We needed to come up with an efficient set of measurements and tests that would allow us to identify and correct the position of the misaligned components within a very short time slot available using beamline development shifts. The paper describes the measurements and tests we have undertaken, the predictions based on the results from the measurements, and the final results from the beamline alignment efforts.
