Abstract
We have proposed to increase the luminosity of the KEK B factory to 2 – 8 × 10 35 / cm 2 / s and extend the physics reach of the B factory experiment. The Belle detector will be upgraded accordingly so that efficient measurement is possible at the highest luminosity. Trigger rate and beam background is expected to be 10 kHz and 20 times larger than that in the present KEK B. Among Belle subsystems, the silicon vertex detector (SVD) is installed closest to the colliding beam where huge beam background is expected. In this report, the design, expected performance and optimization of the SVD upgrade are described.
