Emerging feed mill technology: keeping competitive

The continuous changes in the feed mill sector need to be canalised under the concept of a total quality approach. The use of biotechlology, which is the latest tendency in science, will modify the way of feeding animals. The possibilities for Canadians to use different kinds of ingredients instead of grains are examined in function of those changes. This paper discusses technologies emerging from Europe which Canadian feed millers must examine for future planning. Among these are measuring sliding gates, mixers, roller mills, feed conditioners, coolers, roll adjustment, in-line analysis and liquid weighing. Information is given on the best way to incorporate this new technology in a total quality program in compliance with the ISO 9001 norms.
