Influence of builderʹs sand on the TME of linseed for poultry

The TME of whole or ground linseed with or without builderʹs sand was determined using precision-fed Single Comb White Leghorn roosters. Excreta were collected 24 and 48 h after initial feeding. It was observed that the TME of ground linseed was higher than that of whole linseed. Feeding builderʹs sand resulted in greater TME (P<0.05) compared to feeding the grain alone in either whole or ground form. However, there was no effect of grinding when builderʹs sand was fed. The data suggest that dietary supplementation of poultry feed with builderʹs sand can be alternative to grinding oil seeds.
