Abstract :
A set of hydrate slurry flow experiments has been conducted in a laboratory scale low-pressure flow loop. The dependence of turbulent slurry flow on the hydrate volume fraction has been studied. The slurry is shown to behave as a non-Newtonian fluid and the apparent viscosity is determined as a function of the concentration of hydrate particles. The hydrate suspension was observed to exhibit a yield stress. Flow samples were taken to quantify hydrate particle parameters by microscopy: mean particle diameter and standard deviation, the particle sphericity and the voidage of beds formed by the particles.
