Abstract
Talc-like filler with a layered structure having covalently bonded hexadecyl chain was synthesized and employed for the preparation of polyethylene nanocomposites. Thanks to the organic functionality, hexadecyl modified magnesium silicate melts at 44 °C and this peculiar property (characteristic) improves the dispersion of inorganic layers into the polymeric matrix. Transmission electron microscopy supports the formation of exfoliated polyethylene nanocomposites. The organo-modified talc greatly improves the stability on thermal oxidation of polyethylene.
