Abstract
Charles Rollin Keyes (1864–1942) was a champion of the view that most desert landscapes, including mountains, rock plains and basins, were the product of deflation and abrasion by dust- and sand-laden winds. He largely rejected the role of water action in these environments. His views were strident and were opposed by both his contemporaries and by later workers.
