Abstract :
When the electric field on the surface of a strange star can no longer sustain the crust, the whole crust may fall into the core. The study of this process may provide some theoretical clues for observational identification of strange stars. As shown by the numerical calculations, the collapse of a crust with bottom density of ∼ 8.3 × 1010 g cm−3 or mass of ∼ 3.4 × 10−6M⊙ in a time of approximately 5.4 × 10−3 s may lead to an explosive event lasting about 0.15s, in which every baryon releases an energy of approximately 6.3 MeV, and the total radiative energy may be as high as ∼ 1046 − 1047 erg. This can be used to interpret some explosive phenomena in the universe.
