Abstract :
The construction of high-field, pulsed magnets requires not only high electrical conductivity, but also high mechanical strength of the material. The composite made of oxygen-free, high-conductivity copper and carbon steel has an ultimate tensile strength of more than 1.6GPa with a room temperature conductivity of 62% IACS (international annealed copper standard). This composite is superior to the materials currently available and meets the specification of the materials needed in the 100 tesla pulsed magnet.
