Abstract
Dense, random, disc-simulated media are generated through mechanical boundary constriction and their structures investigated. It is found that, within the high-to-extremal density regime, geometric conditions allow generation of a generalized Delaunay subset that emphasizes dominant configurations. This representation makes conspicuous details of the progressive structural changes on approaching the upper packing bound, which appears homotaxic with the random close-packed (RCP) configuration. For the present building conditions, the method obtains a linear correlation for the density dependence of particular configurations in the near-RCP region.
