Abstract :
Due to the lack of coolant in dry machining processes, there is an increase of heat input into workpieces during the cutting process. As a result, an inhomogeneous temperature distribution occurs, which can lead to problems concerning compliance with critical tolerances, because of distortions of the workpiece. Using the FEM simulation it is possible to calculate and handle these distortions. This paper contains a mathematical model developed to calculate the surface heat flux as input data for FEM simulation. In comparison to former publications, this paper deals not only with single results, but rather with an overview of the results of the past two years.
