Abstract
Compositional distributions in a classical brass and a lead-free, brass, containing bismuth, have been measured. Bismuth segregates strongly to the grain boundaries in pure copper but was not observed at the boundaries in the brass. An excess concentration of tin at the grain boundaries, due to coring, was observed and prevents the segregation of bismuth.
