Abstract :
P-50 oxime dissolved in Escaid 100 has been shown to extract platinum (II) prepared in situ, from aqueous chloride solutions, but rates of extraction were low. Extraction was at a maximum from solutions where chloride and hydrogen ion concentrations were at a minimum. The platinum (II) was subject to slow atmospheric oxidation which resulted in low distribution ratio values. This could be avoided by contracting under an inert atmosphere.
ing of platinum from the organic phase with 60% v/v HCl proved ineffective, but an aqueous 0.1 mol. dm−3 tris (hydroxy methyl) phosphine solution was capable of recovering ∼50% in 10 hours. The coextraction of platinum (II) with palladium was shown to be likely under conditions where a reducing agent from a previous process stage could bring about reduction of platinum (IV) → (II).
