Jean-François Séguier (1703–1784), premier historiographe de la paléontologie

Résumé on manuscrit inachevé intitulé Pétrifications du Véronois, qu’il rédigea à Vérone pendant les années 1740, Jean-François Séguier (1703–1784) a consacré un long chapitre à un historique des travaux consacrés aux fossiles, depuis la Grèce antique jusqu’au milieu du XVIIIe siècle. Il comporte 125 références précises, auxquelles il a consacré une notice plus ou moins détaillée. In his never-completed manuscript on the Pétrifications du Véronois, which he had written in Verona during the 1740s, Jean-François Séguier devoted a long chapter to a chronological account of works dedicated to fossils from the ancient Greeks to the middle of the 18th century. It includes 125 precise items about which he wrote more or less detailed reviews.
