Abstract :
Storm-generated deposits are common in open shelf environments, but well-preserved storm-generated sequences (tempestites) are rare due to subsequent physical reworking and bioturbation. Here we report an exceptionally well-preserved example of storm deposits from the Cambrian Gushan Formation of the eastern North China Craton. This example reveals additional storm-generated physical and biogenic structures and textures that have not been documented in existing models and provides guidance for identifying ancient storm deposits.
