Abstract :
A fourth genus of Mesozoic water measurers (Gerromorpha: Hydrometridae) is discovered and described from the remains of an individual preserved in mid-Cretaceous (Albian-Cenomanian) amber from northern Myanmar. Burmametra macrocarinata gen. et sp. nov. is compared with other Recent and extinct hydrometrid genera and shares apomorphies with the subfamily Hydrometrinae. Based on the distribution of characters states and a preliminary cladistic analysis, the genus is putatively basal among this subfamily. Together with those previous records in Burmese amber and the Crato Limestones of Brazil, Burmametra confirms the early diversification of the Hydrometridae by the Early Cretaceous.
