Microbial adhesion to biosurfaces

In 1996, reports were presented which showed a better understanding of how microorganisms adhere to biosurfaces and infect the host. Modified surfaces and competitive bacterial interventions were shown to hold promise in disease prevention. Antibiotic coating of devices is still a focus of attention, and ineffective biofilm penetration may be circumvented by combination therapy.
