Observations of diffuse interstellar bands and of interstellar polarization

Results are presented from two distinct observational projects, concerning the optical diffuse interstellar bands observed with high-resolution and ultra-high resolution spectroscopy. and UV interstellar polarization observed with the Hubble Space Telescope.
