  • Abstract
A temperature-damage-dependent thermal shock resistance model for ultra-high temperature ceramics is established. This model is based on the sensitivities of thermo-physical properties to temperature and the evolution of the control mechanisms of strength with the change of temperature of ultra-high temperature ceramics, and incorporates the effects of micro-crack size, damage evolution and temperature on the thermal shock resistance of ultra-high temperature ceramics. The result shows that introducing micro-cracks into ultra-high temperature ceramic material and controlling damage evolution as the nucleation mode through microstructure design method could significantly improve the TSR, particularly in the corresponding initial thermal shock temperature dangerous zone, and keep the high strength of ultra-high temperature ceramics.
