Abstract :
Ignitor is a proposed compact high-magnetic field Tokamak aimed at studying plasma burning conditions in deuterium-tritium plasmas. This paper deals with the calculation of the occupational dose (dose to personnel) during normal operation, maintenance, and in the case of an accident. Dose calculations have been performed by means of the GENII code. An annual chronic dose to personnel due to a routine operation is no more than 0.45 μSv y−1 Maintenance operations will have to be carried out remotely, with an annual dose of 5.6 μSv y−1 for maintenance workers. A collective dose value of 0.06 man-mSv y−1 of operation is obtained taking into account all sources. This value is ≈ 1000 times lower than the best value for fission power plants. Concerning accidents, all doses to personnel turn out to be very moderate, low, or even negligible for most sequences. All of them have consequences far below the risk-limit curve. The Ignitor machine, during routine, maintenance and accident sequences, shows a high degree of radioactive safety and very low doses to personnel.
