Abstract
To achieve the realization of a commercial fusion reactor, optimization of plasma performance from a broad viewpoint is indispensable. Sensitivity analysis by using a system code is quite useful for such optimization studies. We have developed a system code for a helical fusion reactor and carried out sensitivity analysis. Through this study, it is found that a high-density/low-temperature operation regime (e.g., n e 6 × 1 0 20 m − 3 , T e = 8 keV) is feasible by increasing the maximum magnetic field strength ( B max ≥ 20 T), while such regime is not accessible in tokamak reactors due to the density and the current drive power limits.
