Abstract :
Plasma disruption in a Tokamak fusion reactor is supposed to be the most critical phenomenon concerning the structural integrity of the plasma-neighbouring components. This paper shows the effects of an electrically conducting first wall on the mechanical loading of the blankets. The spatial distribution, time history and maximum of the induced forces and mechanical stresses in the structure are very sensitive to the electrical design of the first wall. The paper also introduces a method for dynamic modelling of the plasma current which is inductively coupled to the current in the structure, i.e. the time evolution of the plasma current is not prescribed but part of the results.
