Abstract :
The pressure dependency of nearly equimolar deuterium–tritium mixtures also in the presence of the inert diluent helium on the signal of a small 4.6 cm3 volume ionization chamber was investigated experimentally and some of the results compared with theoretical calculations. The ion recombination factor that best fits the results was found to be 5.9×10−6 cm3 ions−1 s−1, a value higher than previously reported in the literature. The performed modeling is considered to be of general value for the design optimization of ionization chambers.
