Abstract :
Chalcones (5a-j) containing thiazole moiety were synthesized by Claisen-Schmidt condensation between 1-(4-methyl-2-(pyridine-3-yl)thiazol-5-yl)ethanone (3) and variously substituted aryl/heteryl aldehydes (4a-j) in good yield. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis data. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and showed moderate to good antibacterial activity.
