Abstract :
This paper is all about ‘Organizational commitment (OC)’ and various facets and challenges that are faced by organization including challenge of retention. Data for the research was generated by floating interview schedule to 100 employees of call center and 100 employees of scheduled public sector bank. The results indicated that there exists a strong correlation between employee retention and / or attrition with organizational commitment. This study further focuses on finding some implementable suggestions for reducing the employee turnover by increasing the employee commitment. The major findings emerging out of this study is that there exists a strong correlation between organizational commitment (OC) and employee retention. Employees with continuance commitment develop turnover cognitions when alternative jobs are available, (Helena M. Addae, K. Praveen Parboteeah, and Nickler Velinor 2008). Schuler and Jackson (2006:216) define retention as everything an employer does to encourage qualified and productive employees to continue work for the organization.
