Abstract :
Forty meniscal tears (22 medial and 18 lateral) were repaired arthroscopically with an outside-in technique. The tears were longitudinal 1-3 cm in length and at 3-5 mm of the meniscosynovial junction. The average age of the patients was 23.5 years and the average injury-surgery interval was 7.5 months. In 24 patients the ACL was intact and in 16 patients the ACl was torn. Concomitant ACL reconstruction was undertaken in 8 patients. At 6 months postoperative 32 repairs (80%) were considered successful based on clinical criteria. The outside-in technique of arthroscopic meniscal repair proved effective with low cost and little neurovascular risk.
