Abstract :
Objective: Studies have suggested that ultrasound-guided embryo transfer (UG-ET) may improve outcome in IVF/ICSI program. However, part of the success may be related to beneficial effect of uterine straightening by passive bladder distension. This prospective study evaluated the effect of bladder distension on the results of US-guided ET. Method: One hundred two women aged 37 years who underwent fresh ET, all ultrasound guided were included and allocated into one of two groups with without full bladder. One of two physicians performed ET with the use of Labotect-embryo transfer catheter. The main outcome measures were, implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, need for instrumental assistance and complications. Results: No significant differences between both groups as regards implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rates, compli-cations blood on the catheter retained embryos. However, there was significantly higher frequency of the need for tenaculum in the group with empty bladder (p 0.05). Conclusion: There was no impact of passive bladder distension on the results of Ultrasound-Guided Embryo Transfer.
