Abstract :
Aim of this Study: Assess the correlation of protein/ creatinine ratio with in 24 hours to confirm diagnosis of preeclampsia. Patients and Methods: This study held in Suez Canal University Obstetrics and Gynecology Department on 70 pregnant women with pre-eclampsia, patients were selected after fulfilling certain inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patients urine was collected over 24 hours, the urine volume, total protein in 24-hour urine collection was evaluated, urine dipstick protein/creatinine ratio in random urine sample were compared to 24 hour result. The test of validity reliability was done using the sensitivity, specificity, false positive and the false negative rate. Also the positive and negative predictive value and the accuracy were assessed. Results: Data analysis shows that there is statistically significant strong positive correlation between random urine protein/creatinine ratio and total protein in 24-hour urine collection in patients with pre-eclampsia. Also it was found that random urine protein/creatinine ratio has sensitivity of 93%, specificity of 86% and accuracy of 90% for prediction of significant proteinuria. Conclusion: Random protein/creatinine ratio has better correlation with the 24 hour urine protein to rule out presence of significant proteinuria as defined by 24-h urine excretion, P/C ratio test is easier; it decreases hospitalizations, minimizes collection and laboratory errors, saves time and is more costeffective. And more acceptable for the patient.
