  • Abstract
    Purpose: To clarify the significance of interleukin-6 (IL- 6) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the pathogenesis of multiple myeloma (MM). Methods: Thirty-six patients with multiple myeloma and twenty non multiple myeloma subjects were studied as controls. The concentrations of VEGF and IL-6 in the serum samples were measured by competitive enzyme imunnoassay (EIA). Results: Serum levels of VEGF and IL-6 were elevated in MM compared with healthy controls. Conclusion: The results of the current study revealed that serum levels IL-6 and VEGF are significantly elevated suggesting that measurement of IL-6 and VEGF may be useful in assessing the multiple myeloma pathogenesis.
