Intracorneal Ring Segments for Keratoconus Correction Short Term Follow-up

Purpose: To evaluate results and stability of intracorneal rings segments (Intacs) implantation for keratoconus correction.Settings: International Eye Hospital, Dokki, Cairo, Egypt.Methods: This retrospective study comprised 15 eyes of 10 patients operated upon between July 2006 and July 2008 that had intacs for keratoconus correction. Results were evaluated at 6 weeks postoperative and every 6 months during the follow-up period till the 24th months.Results: Mean uncorrected visual acuity increased from 0.16 (6/60) preoperatively to 0.3 (6/18) postoperatively (p .001). Mean best corrected visual acuity increased from 0.2 (6/36) preoperatively to 0.4 (6/12) postoperatively (p 001). Mean decrease of inferior-superior (I-S) asymmetry was 4.61 Dioptre (p .01). All patients should increased tolerance to wearing contact lenses. Main difference between 6 and 24 months (stability) showed no significant difference regarding BSCVA (p 5) I-S Asymmetry (p 6).Conclusion: Intacs increased BSCVA decreased I-S asymmetry with stability up to 24 months after surgery.
