  • Abstract
    Objective: To assess the efficacy of Lantus (Insulin Glargine) on the blood glucose levels of people with diabetes and on the various complications that are associated with diabetes (retinopathy, neuropathy, etc).Design: An open, multi-centric, cohort, longitudinal observational study.Participants: 355 diabetic patients were enrolled in the study (85% type II, mean age 49.2 years).Main Results: The blood glucose levels were found to have effectively reduced after the use of Lantus. This was observed after 30 and 90 days of use of the medication. The result of study has shown that the fasting blood glucose levels were reduced by 90.42±60 mg/dl (p 0.00001) for type I and 81.37±52.15 mg/dl (p 0.00001) for type II diabetes.With the continuous use of Lantus the risk of nocturnal hypoglycemia was reduced and the hazard rate for the same was assessed to be 0.03±0.02 (CI 95%) after 90 days of initializing the treatment.Conclusion: Lantus has been found to be effective in a short-term of treatment an d it has also been found that the safety of the drug increases as the adaptability of the patient increases. Overall Lantus has been found to be beneficial for all types of diabetes mellitus.
