Abstract :
Background: Kidney transplantation is a surgical insertion of a human kidney from a living donor or a cadaver to a recipient who has ESRD, thus replacing the lost renal functions. The present study aimed to evaluate quality of life in renal transplant recipients. A retrospective design was used. The study was carried out on 200 patients who had kidney transplantation operation in Mansoura Urology and Nephrology Center at Mansoura University Hospital. They also passed hemodialysis before transplantation. The data were collected using a quality of life scale for end stage renal disease. The result of this study revealed that statistical significance difference between dialysis period and post transplantation regarding physical, psychological, and spiritual domain in the contrary with social domain. It recommended that more researches need to be done to assess quality of life after renal transplantation for both recipients and donors, the need for community awareness by importance of donation and finally preventive measures to reduce incidence of end stage renal disease. Conclusion: In general, there were a statistically significance difference between transplantation and dialysis period regarding physical, psychological, and spiritual domain of quality of life, but there were no statistically significant difference between dialysis and post-transplant period regarding socio-economic domain score of quality of life.
