Abstract :
Road traffic injuries are a major community health problem that causes severe injuries with increasing deaths each year. Aim of this Study: Was to determine the impact of first aid training program directed to cardrivers about road traffic injuries in Port Said. Design: Quasi-experimental study. Setting: This study was carried out in Port Said Governorate at Port Said car stations. It was carried out on 100 car-drivers. Tools: Two tools were used to collect data. The first was an interview questionnaire sheet to assess the car driver s knowledge regarding first aid given to the injured victim. The second tool was observation checklist to assess practices related to CPR, first aid of wound, bleeding, shock and fractures. All tools were used pre, post program and after 3 months. Results: The study indicated that there were unsatisfactory knowledge and practice in relation to road traffic injuries and its first aid before intervention of the program. However, there was significant improvement in knowledge and practice of the entire sample after implementation of the program. The total of knowledge and practice were highly statistically significant (p 0.001). Statistically significant relation was found between previous training with first aid theoretical knowledge and all observed practice in pre and follow-up tests. Conclusion: The implemented program about first aid for road traffic injuries had a significant impact on car-drivers knowledge and practice. Recommendations: Conduct and disseminate educational materials to raise community awareness about road traffic injuries and the appropriate first aid. Also first aid training and education should be mandatory before getting driving licenses and repeated before every renewing of the driving license.
