Abstract :
Ten F2 intraspecific cross combinations derived from genetically diverse genotypes of Gossypium hirsutum were estimated for genetic selection parameters. All the F2 populations along with their respective parents were laid out in three replications in a randomized complete block (RCB) design at Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam Sindh, Pakistan during 2004. The mean values of all the genotypes differed significantly (P 0.01) for all the characters understudy viz; number of sympodial branches per plant, boll weight, number of bolls per plant and seed cotton yield per plant. The results indicated that the hybrid FH-901 x Cedix produced significantly higher seed cotton yield per plant with maximum number of bolls per plant and higher boll weight followed by NIAB-78 x Cedix. The progeny NIAB-78 x Cedix performed better for number of bolls per plant and seed cotton yield per plant. It is concluded that a good prospects exist for selecting FH-901 x Cedix and NIAB-78 x Cedix hybrids for further synthesis and development of new cotton genotypes.
