Abstract :
A study on heavy metal concentrations in water of Sungai Semenyih watershed has been conducted at 11 sampling stations. Surface water samples for heavy metals determination were collected and some water quality parameters were determined at each station. Metals such as mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co) and manganese (Mn) were determined in the water samples. The results showed that in general heavy metals concentratios were lower than maximum concentrations allowed but higher than continuous concentration (EPA) and concentration for aquatic life protection (CCME). Statistical analyses (ANOVA) show that there are significant differences (p 0.05) between sampling stations for all metals and there was a trend of increase in Fe and Mn from upstream to downstream Sungai $emenyih watershed. For other water quality parameters, there was a trend of increase in conductivity and turbidity at some stations especially at agriculture, industrial and residential areas.
