Abstract :
Ferric ions (Fe3+) normally exist as one of metal pollutants in wastewater from steel-alloy and eloctroplating industries. wujud sebagai salah satu ion logam pencemar dalam air sisa dari industri besi keluli dan juga eletropenyaduran. Although it exist as metal polluta[lt, ferric ion has its hidden role as a coagulant or absorbent. Hence, a study was carried out to investigate the presence effects of these ions on the metal ion solubility in carbonate precipitation of mixed metals. Based on the obtained results, the presence of ferric ions increased the efficiency removal of other metal. The minimum solubility of each metal in the mixture with the presence of the ferric ions was far lower than that in theindividual system and also in the mixture without the presence of the ferric ions. The minimum solubility of chromium, copper, nickel, lead and zinc ion in the presence offerric ions were found to be adalah 0.005-0.287 mg/L, 0.007-0.155 mg/L, 0.017-0.117 mg/L, 0.004-0.143 mg/L dan 0.030-0.135 mg/L respectively. On other hand, there was no significant change in the range of optimum pH to remove all the metals simultaneously in the mixed metal in the presence of ferric ions. The optimum pH range was still at a pH range of 8.00-11.0. Despite that, the removal for all the metals was found to start at a pH lower than that in the individual systems as reported in the first article.
