Abstract :
This study was performed to identify the variability of 234U/238U ratio in the suspended solid (TSS) at eight different stations at Kuala Selangor, Selangor. The analytical procedures include field sampling, precipitation, anion exchange, electro-deposition and alpha counting using alpha spectrometer. The 234U/238U ratio value is highest at Station 8 (234U/238U = 2.98) and Station 2 (234U/238U = 3.34) obtained during first sampling. While in second sampling, the range of 234U/238U ratio is between 1.29 (Station 4) to 11.57 (Station 6). This is because of the mobalization of 234U by microorganisms in the suspended phase and the reduction of U(VI) to U(IV) which will deposite the uranium from water to the sediment.
