Abstract :
This paper presents the findings of a field study on factors determining the location of manufacturing industries in Nilai Industrial Area, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Primary data collected from preliminary studies, interviews and questionnaire administration revealed that the firms studied differed in their locational choice. The most determining factor was skilled male labour followed by overseas markets, accessibility to a sea port, road and highway transport and trailer facilities, telecommunication amenities, strategic location and the investment tax incentives (ECP). In terms of the locational decision making process, no firms were found to have approximated any of the Hayter, Jayet or Wins models. In conclusión, it may be said that the key to the firms’ locational decisión making was complete and reliable information.
